Monique Ceccato is a freelance travel journalist and photographer born in Western Australia, now living in Stavanger, Norway. Over the last 15 years, her work has been published widely in Australia, the US, and the UK. You can find her images and bylines in titles like Gourmet Traveller, The Telegraph (UK), International Traveller, Australian Traveller, Escape, Explore, delicious, The iPaper (UK), Fodors, Get Lost, Hurtigruten Magazine, Vacations & Travel, KarryOn, SBS Food, and Broadsheet (and the Broadsheet Travel Book).
As a born and bred West Australian, she’s an expert on the subject matter. Now that she resides in Norway, the same goes for all things Norwegian. Though big cities are buzzing, it’s the off-the-beaten-path destinations and authentic experiences that really light her fire.
If it’s off-the-beaten-path destinations that most inspire her writing, it’s the colourful and intricately detailed that most inspire her photography. Like a bower bird, the more there is going on, the more she’s attracted to it. Though Monique is happy photographing almost any subject matter—people, animals, small business, nature—her favourite beats are travel and food. In the instance of people and animals, the more candid/unstaged, the better.
When Monique isn’t behind the lens or in front of the computer, you can find her egging on her daughter in tummy time, making gnocchi from scratch with a glass of red wine for company, or recharging by the ocean.
